Frames Per Second

Nicholas Metivier Gallery is pleased to present Frames Per Second, a group show about the influence of film and photography in the work of artists Charles Bierk, Peter Horvath & Chris Soos and Renie Spoelstra. The exhibition will open on July 19 and will be on view through August 18 with a reception for the artists on Thursday, July 19 from 6– 8 PM.

Renie Spoelstra is a young Dutch artist whose practice is devoted entirely to drawing. Known for her “cinematic eye”, Spoelstra often makes films of a particular landscape and works from the stills. For her recent drawings, she cites filmmakers David Lynch and Alfred Hitchock as influences. The feeling of suspense and awareness evoked in these films is something that Spoelstra strives for in her drawings.

Frames Per Second presents a recent suite of Spoelstra’s drawings that explore the various notions of “home”. Working from her archive of stills and photographs, Spoelstra depicts the area nearby her home in Rotterdam as well as various found real estate properties. This will be Spoelstra’s second exhibition at the Gallery. She has exhibited throughout the Netherlands and her work is in many prominent collections across Europe and the USA.
