Nearly 75 years after the legendary exhibition Le Noir est une Couleur, visitors to the Louvre-Lens are immersed in the fascinating observation of this tonality with plural symbolism in Western arts, from antiquity to the present day.

(Renie Spoelstra)Sun, 23 Feb 2020 14:08:20 +0200 Nordic Noir, solo show Ron Mandos Gallery Amsterdam
A new solo show at Ron Mandos Gallery Amsterdam.
The title refers to the genre in film and books of the Scandinavian thriller or Nordic Noir. And now, as the first Central European museum to do so, the Albertina Museum is providing a glimpse into the Guerlains’ activities as collectors by showing a selection of highlights from these holdings.

(Renie Spoelstra)Mon, 30 Sep 2019 10:03:51 +0200 Renie Spoelstra, soloshow Gasunie, Groningen
Soloshow at the foyer of the beautiful organic building of the Dutch corporate N.V. The melancholic loneliness that is so prevalent in these landscapes are balanced with a sense of freedom of being immersed in nature. At times, she spends weeks in order to capture the feeling of a place.
Themes of Intensity, secrecy and mystery are reoccurring in Spoelstra’s works. There is an alluring and mythical feel of a place. The series ‘Stretching Universe,’ which is also on display, refers to the scientific fact that our universe is expanding, while here on earth it feels as though it is shrinking with the rise of xenophobia, narrow-mindedness and the continuous threats of climate change. Fleeing, or escaping to nature is not as easy as it may seem.

(Renie Spoelstra)Fri, 24 Feb 2017 16:31:19 +0200 Fear in a Handful of Dust
Group show curated by Stefan Serneels, at Marion de Canniere Antwerp.
